SUMMARY:November 2024 Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Our November meeting will take place on Wednesday the 20th with a presentation by Nigel Eaton entitled ‘Christmas Plants and Orchids.’ Further details are given below. It certainly sounds like one not to be missed\, especially at this time of year. \n\nAs part of their charitable commitment to bringing horticulture to local groups\, we are most grateful to Moss and Moor Garden Centre\, Ben Rhydding\, for providing the horticultural expert Nigel Eaton to give this talk on 20 November on ‘Orchids and Christmas Plants’.  He will discuss how to care for Christmas houseplants such as poinsettia\, orchids and Christmas cacti and festive displays like wreathes and real Christmas trees so that members\, their friends and family get the most out of plants given at Christmas time. Nigel will be bringing plants and other items along for sale; so we are encouraging members to buy and in so doing support this charitable service and perhaps solve what to get someone for Christmas. So do remember to bring money if you are interested. \n\n\nOn this theme of Christmas\,  Moss and Moor are hosting an exclusive shopping evening for local clubs on Tuesday 10th of December from 6.00 – 9.00 with talks and demonstrations on winter colour\, Christmas plants and making wreathes and table centres. There will be Tea and coffee on arrival and seasonal tastings. Also\, exclusive discounts on selected lines throughout the store on the night. So\, if members are interested\, we will ask for an idea of numbers at the November meeting to make sure everyone is catered for. \n\nAll are welcome at our meetings and events so why not come along to the Methodist Church Hall and see if it’s for you ?  The doors will be open from shortly after 7.00.p.m. with the meeting due to begin at 7.30.p.m.  We hope you can join us\, and we look forward to seeing you then. \nPlease remember that the Church Hall does have a lift to take passengers from the car park to the Hall level.  So if you have mobility problems please don’t be put off. Just let a Committee member know that you will be coming and we will be pleased to have the lift ready and available for you to use.

SUMMARY:RHS Harlow Carr.
DESCRIPTION:Please click on the heading ” RHS Harlow Carr ” for more information. \nIT IS WITH REGRET THAT THE OUTING  WE  HAD PLANNED TO BURNBY HALL GARDENS AND WHITE WYNN\, ELLERTON HAS HAD TO BE CANCELLED DUE TO A LACK OF BOOKINGS WHICH HAVE MADE IT NOT ECONOMICALLY VIABLE. However an alternative visit to RHS Harlow Carr has now been arranged. These are the details:- \nOur secretary Joan Waite points out that Harlow Carr need to know how many members of the club will be visiting so\, if you haven’t already done so\, please give your name to Joan either by email – cookridgegardenclub@icloud.com – or by ‘phone – 0113 267 6185. Joan will also need to know if you wish to include friends or relatives ( if possible and if numbers allow ) in the group. Please contact Joan for more information etc. Please also note the following important points:- \n\nAs a club we are affiliated to the RHS. It is primarily because of that affiliation that we are able to make this visit as a group.\nThose members of the Cookridge Garden Club who are not also individual members of the R.H.S. would not normally be able to enter Harlow Carr without charge.\nFor that reason the group will be admitted as a group at 12.30 prompt. Please allow plenty of time for your journey to ensure that you arrive at the main entrance to the grounds in good time. Late entrants will not be admitted.\nThere are excellent car parks at Harlow Carr  including car park 3 which is found beyond the gardens on the right hand side. It usually offers a lot of free spaces as most people tend to use the more visible car parks just before the main entrance building. There is also a bus service from Harrogate bus station ( Service 6 ) which runs about every 20 minutes and stops near the traffic lights two or three hundred yards from the main entrance.\nSo\, if you haven’t let Joan know yet but are interested please contact her as above. Spaces are limited and it would be a pity to miss what is sure to be a very enjoyable visit.\n\n \n\nCookridge Garden Club

SUMMARY:May 2024 Monthly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:For more information please click on the heading above. \n“Hepworth Gallery Garden – Transforming an unusual piece of land into a beautiful free public garden” is the topic of Katy Merrington’s presentation on Wednesday 15th May.  If the Gallery’s website is anything to go by it should be a very interesting presentation.  The garden at the Hepworth Wakefield Art Gallery has been designed by internationally renowned garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith and was opened to the public in 2019. Katy will speak about the creation and development of this beautiful new public space\, along with inspiring ideas for creating year-round interest through perennial plantings. This is our fifth monthly meeting and the last one before the summer break. However the Committee are busy working on events to take us through the summer and of course there is our Annual Show to look forward to in September. \nAll are welcome at our meetings and events so why not come along to the Methodist Church Hall and see if it’s for you ? Most of our meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month\, the exception being December when we meet on the second Wednesday of the month.

SUMMARY:Evening Visit to a Member's Garden - Yeadon
DESCRIPTION:Please click on the title above for all available information. Club member Peter Smith is opening his garden at Yeadon for this member’s evening visit in July. \nCatering will be provided free of charge. Peter’s address is 16 Woodlea Close\, Westfield\, Yeadon Leeds LS19 7LP The telephone number to ring is 0113 2505276 or 07817688110 if anyone get lost en-route. \n Parking may be a problem as Peter  lives in a cul de sac and some of the residents do not park on their driveways. It would be helpful if members visiting  park  up the road and walk down. In other words parking is limited so perhaps members could try and stagger the time they come. There is some flexibility over the start and finish times given.  \nPeter writes ” We are a small semi detached and the garden particularly at the front is stepped as we are on a slope which is more obvious at the back where the greenhouses are. The garden itself will be past its best by July but lots of the larger cactii will be outside around the beds so they are  easy to see for anyone coming. The main highlight is the chance to go into both small greenhouses and view the collection of plants I have built up over 15 years and some hopefully will be in flower. Some of these plants are national award winners so I hope your members will enjoy and embrace these specialist plants.” \n Peter Smith\, Leeds branch BCSS secretary \n Branch meetings held Monthly – February to October at : \nSt Columba’s Hall Headingley Leeds LS 6 2DH. Start time for meetings is 7.30.p.m. \n  \n
