Gardener’s Question Time !

For a trial period we are giving Club Members the opportunity to seek advice on any gardening problems they have encountered.
If you have a problem plant and would welcome some advice please send an email via the form included under the “Contact Us” header. We cannot promise a successful outcome but will do our best to help if possible.

Please note that emails sent to info@cookridgegardenclub.co.uk will not be checked every day so please allow up to a week to receive a reply.

On the other hand if you have had, perhaps unexpectedly, success with a particular gardening issue and would like to share that success with other Club Members please also send us an email to info@cookridgegardenclub.co.uk

GARDENERS QUESTION TIME – Questions and Answers.

Q. PRUNING ANNABELL HYDRANGEAS
Club member David Butterworth writes “ Hi, I have just purchased a small “Annabell Hydrangea”, and would appreciate some pruning advice as I am informed that this version is different from most other varIants”

A. Club secretary, Katherine Hill, having researched this issue replies “ Prune to renew the hydrangea, if necessary, during the autumn dormancy when the bare branches are exposed. Annabelle blooms on new wood so dormant pruning doesn’t reduce blossoms. Remove several of the oldest stalks at ground level. Continue removing the oldest wood until you have taken out one third of the plant”.
