RULES
1. The Show will be conducted in accordance with the Rules and Standards contained in R.H.S. Show handbooks, except where under this schedule these previously do not apply.
2. Entries and Fees All Classes are open, except for class 13 and 22. An entry fee of 50p per exhibit will be charged on all adult entries.
3. Entry Forms (together with fees) will be available and accepted at the Hall, on Friday, 7.30 pm to 9.00 pm, and on the day of the show, from 8.45 am, until 10.45 am.
4. Staging must be complete by 11.15 am, on Show Day, when the Hall and all rooms will be closed for judging.
5. Exhibits must bear a class card, obtainable from the Entry Table, placed class number uppermost.
Exhibitors to name all plants and flowers varieties where possible.
6. All Exhibits must be bona-fida products of the exhibitor. All horticultural exhibits must have been in the exhibitor’s cultivation for at least three months prior to the show.
7. Exhibits not conforming to the schedule will be disqualified.
8. The Judge’s decision is final.
9. The Committee is empowered to settle any disputes which may arise, and, for which these rules do not provide.
10. The Trophies remain the property of the Society.
Winners must return trophies to the Secretary, at least three weeks before the next Annual Show. The holder is responsible for the award, whilst it is in their possession.
11. Points will be awarded as follows:-
1st prize – 5 points
2nd prize – 3 points
3rd prize – 1 point
In the event of a tie, the Trophy, will be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most first prizes. If still tied, then, second prizes etc.
12. Exhibitors may enter more than one exhibit in a class. However, only the best exhibit will qualify for a prize.
13. Exhibitors may use their own vases, bowls, plates etc. but there are Society vases available if required.
14. Prizes. If in the opinion of the judge, the exhibits in any class do not merit a prize, then, the judge shall have the power to withhold the prize or prizes.
15. Exhibits and Prize Cards must not be removed before 3.45 pm.
16. Trophies will be presented to the winners at 3.30pm.
Prizes may be collected from the Treasurer after 3.45pm.
17. Prize money not collected by 4.15 pm will be considered as a donation to the Society funds.
Flower or vegetable produce not collected by exhibitors will be available to anyone to take and for which a donation to Cookridge Gardening Club would be appreciated.

Class 57. Recipe for Red VelvetCake. First prize £5.00
57. Recipe Red Velvet Cake First prize £5.00
For the Cake250g Plain flour, 1 tbsp Cocoa powder, 2 tspn Baking powder
1 tspn Bicarbonate of soda, 250g light Muscavado sugar, 200ml buttermilk
150ml sunflower oil , 2 tspn vanilla extract, 1 tbsp red food colouring gel or
¼ tspn colouring paste, 2 large eggs
Buttercream icing 250g soft Butter, 2 tspn Vanilla extract, 300g icing sugar,
250g Full fat Marscapone
Preheat oven 180C/160 Fan/ Gas 4 Grease 2 x20cm sandwich tins. Line bases with baking paper
1. Measure & mix flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, bicarbonate of soda & sugar
2. Separately mix buttermilk, oil, vanilla, food colouring & 100ml water in a jug. Add eggs and whisk till smooth. Add wet ingredients into dry ones. Whisk till combined.
3. The mixture should be bright red. Divide evenly between tins & level the surface.
Bake 25-30 mins or till well risen & shrinks from sides of tins. Cool in tins for 10 mins
then turn out, peel off paper and cool completely.
4. For buttercream icing mix soft butter, vanilla essence & half the icing sugar with electric whisk until smooth. Sift in remaining icing sugar Mix again. Add marscapone & stir gently-don’t whisk as it may split. Put a flutrd nozzle in a piping bag & spoon in 150g of buttercream
5. To assemble cake sit one sponge on a cake plate. Spread 1/3 of buttercream on cake. Sit other cake on top. Spread a thin layer of icing- a crumb coat-over whole cake, then chill for 30 mins.
6. Pile the remaining icing on top and spread with a palette knife over top and edges to completely cover the cake. Make sure icing is fully smooth around the edges before creating lines up the sides. Make wide lines up the sides. Use reserved buttercream in piping bag to pipe a rope design of continuous overlapping swirls.
